Three Things to Consider When Replacing a Roof

replacing a roof

If you are facing the expense of a new roof , here are three things to consider when getting a new roof.

1. Be certain that the bid includes tearing off the old roof completely before putting the new material on.

While there might be a small savings in just slapping a new layer of shingles over the old ones, the risk just isn’t worth it.  The extra weight can be significant, particularly in older homes.  Then there is the fact that you really can’t properly inspect the wooden sheathing that forms the structure of your roof.  If repairs are needed you won’t be able to see without removing the old roof.

Improvements in Roofing Technology

Terrells Roofing OKCAfter 40 years in business, at Terrell’s we’ve seen a lot of changes in our industry.  It doesn’t seem that long ago that shingles were paper matt covered with micro-rock that curled quickly and shed the rocks in just a few years. The introduction of fiberglass shingles in the late 1980’s was a huge leap forward.  This new technology provided longer life for the roof, and a product that was easier to install.  In the years since, we’ve seen shingles available in a variety of colors.  They are also not being manufactured for different geographic conditions, climate, hail resistance, and winds up to 110 miles an hour.
